I made healthy eating and exercise a part of my daily routine. And I got a coach.
Like you, I’m a busy woman – I run multiple businesses and am raising a teenage daughter. But my mood and energy are better than ever, and I am finally able to approach life with the confidence and charisma necessary to chase down all my really big dreams. Although it hasn’t always been that way.
I thought I was rockin’ it in my 20’s. I had an MBA and a great job. I owned a home, and my daughter was starting school. I thought I had finally met “the one” to be my loving partner in life.
But behind the scenes, I was a complete train wreck. I was 35 pounds overweight. I would drink myself to sleep every night. My skin was awful, and I loathed my own reflection. l had settled for a relationship that I knew wasn’t healthy for me or my daughter because I didn’t think there was anyone else who could possibly love me or find me attractive.
I experienced blinding migraines. My anxiety was through the roof. And my daily stress was causing my body to deteriorate from the inside out.
What’s worse, I had no idea of the physical damage my unhealthy lifestyle was causing my body until one day, I was at my office, and I dropped to the floor with the worst gut pain I had ever felt in my life. (Yes, even worse than contractions!) My coworker carried me to the car and drove me to the emergency room, where they ran 48 hours of tests without being able to pinpoint the source of the pain. As a last resort, the surgeon opened me up and found that my insides had been completely overrun with inflammation and disease.
When I was released from the hospital, my first thought on the ride home was, “I must make a change.” A few weeks later, when my body had healed from the surgery, I purchased a pair of running shoes and stepped out my front door with the goal of running one mile around the block. I made it about six houses down my street before I had to stop to catch my breath and choke back feelings of nausea. “Oh my,” I thought to myself. “Healthy changes are going to suck.”
In the years that followed, I tried every diet; talked to every doctor, trainer, and holistic specialist who would take an appointment with me; and attempted every fad exercise program from Pilates to CrossFit to P90X. I rid my life of toxic relationships and toxic foods. I ran marathons. I completed an Ironman. And I finally discovered the formula to having a body I can be proud of, along with the strength, energy and confidence to pursue every dream I have for myself and my family.
